Alex Pearl has plied his trade as an advertising copywriter for more years than he'd care to own up to, and has written for most conceivable sectors - above-the-line, below-the-line, through-the-line and online. Over time, he has penned press advertisements, TV commercials, Direct Mail packs, corporate brochures, radio commercials, websites - and everything in between. And along the way has been fortunate enough to have had his work recognised by such bodies as Cannes, D&AD, British TV and Campaign Press - among others.
In recent years, he has extended his writing activities to include published books - both fiction and non-fiction. His first novel, Sleeping with the Blackbirds was published for the teen market by PenPress in 2011 and was longlisted by The Millennium Book Awards and selected by The Indie Author Project to be distributed to public libraries across the US and Canada.
This was followed by his short story Scared to Death, which was published in the anthology The Clock Struck War compiled by Mardibooks in 2014 to mark the centenary of the First World War.
In 2015, a selection of his blog posts was published by Amazon in paperback under the title Random Ramblings of a Short-sighted Blogger.
His debut thriller The Chair Man that features a tetraplegic as the novel's protagonist was a Finalist in The Wishing Shelf Book Awards 2021.
His comic murder mystery A Brand to Die For is the first murder mystery set in the advertising industry since Dorothy L. Sayers penned Murder Must Advertise back in 1933.
During Covid Alex interviewed 100 authors about their backgrounds, motivations and working methods. The interviews were subsequently published under the title 100 Ways to Write a Book by Bolzwinick Books and all author proceeds are being donated to PEN International.
He also edited The Changing Face of Religion and Human Rights by Clemens N Nathan - a scholarly tome that is available from most academic centres and seats of learning with theology and international human rights faculties.
